Rhododendron parryae

Rhododendron parryae

Rhododendron species from India Arunachal Pradesh. A sometimes epiphytic plant growing on trees, or rock and cliffs. Moderately scented white flowers with a yellow center appear in May on an open growing shrub with cinnamon colored, peeling bark, which it is prized for. This species rhododendron will grow to 6-8 ft tall in 10 years, and is hardy to 20 deg F. From the Maddenii ssp. ciliicalyx section of the rhododendron group. Discovered by Mrs. Parry, wife of an officer in the Indian civil Service.

Hardy in zones 9 and 10.

Rare Variety – This variety is difficult to find anywhere due to these reasons

  • These tender varieties are rare because they do not have a wide enough audience due to their lack of hardiness and are overlooked by the big growers.
  • Singing Tree Gardens has made these rare varieties our passion and remain committed to producing them for future generations. Currently we are the only source in the USA for these tender, FRAGRANT plants.
