Tiny branches with short stiff needles grow into a dense and cushioned plant. 'Medusa' will produce pink/red cones at the ends of the branches in spring, making it quite ornamental. Later the color turns to brown, but the cones will stay on for quite some time. Found as a witch's broom on Picea abies 'Acrocona', which does the same branch-end colored cones. The plant will grow to a bit over 1 ft tall and 1.5 ft wide in 10 years. New and very desirable among collectors. Hardy to zone 3.
