There are not that many R. strigillosum hybrids, but here is one of the best. The plant flowers early, in February or March coming out with perfect ball trusses of blood red on a plant with long narrow leaves on hairy stems. Many feel this is the best red rhododendron to date, but there are so many good ones, it is hard for me to say that. However, it is one of the first to bloom, heralding the beginning the the rhododendron bloom.
