Technically this is an Azaleadendron, a cross between the rhododendron catawbience and the native East Coast azalea viscosum. The plant is semi-evergreen, losing some leaves in the winter. This is due to the parent R. viscosum being deciduous. But this parent is also responsible for the flowers being highly fragrant. This cultivar is lost in the trade but we found one in a private garden that we have propagated for all of you fragrance lovers. The plant only grows to 4 ft tall in 10 years, and is hardy to 0 deg F.
