I wanted to drag Emerald Sea into the spotlight because I take such delight in playing with it and I think if more people understood it's potential, you would all be playing with them too! Their prostrate habit makes it an excellent ground cover for wild spaces or hillsides. I have taken to tying them up in different shapes. They are so elegant and sculptural, I am full of delight as I shape them and reshape them. I have a lofty notion of training one along a border fence for a gorgeous living wall. The possibilities are so fun to dream up. And this wild jewel is so easy for us to grow for you that we can offer them at $35 in a 2 gallon pot. The 2 gallon plants seen here are staked up 3 and 4 feet high! With a deal this good, you could cover some serious ground (pun intended).
If you are a beginning gardener, you can think of this one as a confidence building exercise. Junipers, in general, are hard to kill so don't tell me about your black thumb, just go plant one and feel your perspetive start to shift!
The new growth on the branches of Emerald Sea are yellow and the needles are a a bright, spring green. This plant WANTS to be here. It is vigorous and forgiving. It is an easy focal point in a sculptural garden and if you have second thought, shake the branches loose and start again.
