Frequently Asked Questions

We are pleased to offer a variety of shrubs that will add foliage color and texture to your garden. Some are deciduous and others evergreen, but they each have their own unique characteristics that make them wonderful plants to grow. These garden gems have worked well in our garden designs and we feel that they are plants that are versatile, easy to grow, and you will enjoy them for many years.
Shrubs - Singing Tree Gardens
Genus: Ulmus
Species: parvifolia
Hokkaido
This tiny leaf elm is the perfect plant for Bonsai and the small garden, growing to only 12" tall and 16"-20" wide in 10 years. The trunk will become thick and corky rather quickly, and within 5 years, start to become old and heavily textured. The leaves are only 1/8" long and are congested along the dark brown stems. For Bonsai, pruning is necessary to develop a good specimen, and wiring is difficult. This plant cannot tolerate poor drainage, or drought conditions either. Also, a full sun site is preferable to shady. A worthwhile cultivar to collect.
